December 6 - December 8, 2019
Theme: AWAITING NEW BIRTH—FROM ROOT TO
SHOOT. On this Advent weekend we will have time
in silence to reflect on the mystery of God’s call to
new life, and our readiness to be part of new birth
emerging from the old. We will look to the land for
signs of gestation, letting the fallow fields and
woodlands teach us what it might mean to invite God
to call us into something new. “A shoot shall come
out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow
out of his roots. The spirit of the LORD shall rest there,
the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of
counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the
fear of the LORD.” (From Isaiah 11:1-2)
Leader: Peter Bankson has been a part of Seekers
Church since 1976. He is a preacher, regular presider
at worship and spiritual guide for Seekers, and a
member of the mission groups that support worship
and the ministry of place in Seekers Church. He is the
co-author of “Calling on God: Inclusive Christian
Prayers for Three Years of Sundays.”
Weekend retreats run Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. The silence begins Friday night after dinner when the leader opens the retreat and introduces the theme. The leader usually offers brief meditations with morning and evening prayers on Saturday. The silence ends late-morning Sunday with a time of sharing and worship, followed by lunch and departure.
The cost for weekend retreats is $235. To reserve a space, please send a $100 deposit with an application you can print from the application page, or pay on line by going to the application page and clicking on payment options.
Dinner on Friday at 7 pm is the first official gathering. You are welcome to arrive and settle in between 3:30 and 6:30 pm on Friday. The retreat will end by 2 pm on Sunday. It is important that you come on a weekend when you can stay for the whole retreat.
