Daring the Dark: Advent Courage – A Weekend Retreat

December 5 - December 7

willows

Theme: Daring the Dark: Advent Courage.  December is a time of facing into the dark, unknown mystery of life. Tree branches are bare, the light has diminished, and all that lives face into a winter rhythm. The Christmas story offers us a young girl choosing to trust in divine mystery and lean into hope. Mary braves darkness on many levels, within and without.  Embraced by Dayspring’s winter landscape, wandering her paths, and warmed by the firelight in the Yoke Room, we will slow down to breathe in the blessings of community and silence. As we rest and pray, we will companion Mary in daring the dark, and open to the vital gift of Advent courage.

The Spirit of God is a life that bestows life

root of the world-tree and wind in its branches.

She is glistening life, alluring, all praise,

All-awakening, all-resurrecting. –Hildegard of Bingen

Leader: Ann Dean is a spiritual director and long-time leader of contemplative retreats.  A nationally known leader for deepening the life of prayer and for developing new structures committed to Earth care and social justice, Ann has been a minister in the ecumenical Church of the Saviour since 1994. Weekend retreats run Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. The silence begins Friday night after dinner when the leader opens the retreat and introduces the theme. The leader usually offers brief morning and evening reflections on Saturday. The silence ends after breakfast Sunday morning with a time of sharing and worship, followed by lunch and departure.
