In Search of Sanctuary – A Weekend Retreat

Theme: In Search of Sanctuary
“Sanctuary is wherever I find safe space to regain my bearings, reclaim my soul, heal my wounds, and return to the world as a wounded healer. It’s not merely about finding shelter from the storm: it’s about spiritual survival.” – Parker Palmer
The word “sanctuary” typically evokes a sense of peace, shelter, and safety. It may remind us of a particular space where we have worshipped, a favorite bird sanctuary, or a place of refuge for those seeking a safe haven. Parker Palmer suggests that sanctuary is any space where we can regain our bearings, reclaim our souls, and heal our wounds. In these troubled and depleting times, sanctuary is vital for our spiritual wellbeing.
Sometimes sanctuaries are physical spaces, but sanctuary may also be found in the company of creation, the solace of a friend, the pages of a good book, or the depth of silence. In the beautiful sanctuary of Dayspring, we will search for the various sanctuaries in our lives, reflect on their meaning and purpose, and consider how we might be a sanctuary for others.
Leader: Lorie Conway has a passion for deep listening and accompanying others on their spiritual journeys as a spiritual companion and retreat leader. She also works with Well for the Journey in Lutherville, MD, and the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation.
Weekend retreats run Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. The silence begins Friday night after dinner when the leader opens the retreat and introduces the theme. The group will gather for brief morning and evening reflections by the leader on Saturday. The silence ends after breakfast Sunday morning with a time of sharing and worship, followed by lunch and departure.
The cost for weekend retreats is $325. A $150 deposit is required to register.
Dinner on Friday at 7 pm is the first official gathering. You are welcome to arrive and settle in between 3:30 and 6:30 pm on Friday. The retreat will end by 2 pm on Sunday. Please plan to stay for the entire retreat.
