The Inner Work of Aging – A Weekend Retreat

August 8, 2025 - August 10, 2025

Theme: The Inner Work of Aging.  We live in an ageist culture that worships youth and perpetuates pejorative attitudes about aging.  Our communities desperately need the wisdom of elders, but aging in and of itself does not make us wise elders. We must do the inner work of aging; cultivating contemplative practices, life reviews, forgiveness of past hurts, shifting from taking our identity from our doing to our being and more.  This retreat is for all people over 55 who are on the path of late life and wish to reorient themselves from Hero to Elder, Role to Soul, and Age to Sage. We will draw from the concepts presented in Connie Zweig’s book The Inner Work of Age: Shifting from Role to Soul, and Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi’s book, From Age-ing to Sage-ing.

Leader: Mike Little has spent over three decades working with Church of the Saviour ministries in Washington, D.C. Mike is the Faith and Money Network director and co-founded a new inter-spiritual community, A Wider Table. Mike has a life-long commitment to justice-seeking movements for social change.

Weekend retreats run Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. The silence begins Friday night after dinner when the leader opens the retreat and introduces the theme. The leader usually offers brief morning and evening reflections on Saturday. The silence ends after breakfast Sunday morning with a time of sharing and worship, followed by lunch and departure.

The cost for weekend retreats is $300.  A $150 deposit is required to register.

We serve family-style, homemade vegetarian food which includes eggs and dairy. If you have any allergies or medically advised dietary restrictions, please let us know, and we will accommodate your needs if we can.
